Class of January 2012

1/31/2012 4:32:48 PM

Three young men chose to began their year well by enrolling in Narrow Gate. Chris of Minooka, Ill.; Logan of Louisville; andNew Class, Jan. 2012 Zack of Thompson's Station (pictured from left to right) began their Foundation experience on Tuesday, January 17th. Please pray for them as they journey with God and each other in this new chapter of life. Please also pray for all our staff, students and Board of Directors as we steward the lives entrusted us.

At this beginning of the year and throughout 2012, may we all have the courage to do what these young men have done: take a look at our lives, allow the Holy Spirit to highlight areas in which we can grow, and take steps toward God and His purposes for us.

Graduate Update: Jim Studies at Nation's Leading Blacksmithing School

1/16/2012 10:39:17 AM

Jim at John C. CampbellLast week, Narrow Gate's Intern, Jim, began a nine-week stay at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C., one of the nation's leading blacksmithing schools. The rest of Narrow Gate's staff had the opportunity to take him to school and, while there, tour the campus, which offers training in various folk arts. While there, Jim will serve the school as a work-study participant, allowing him to perform basic work functions such as grounds maintenance in exchange for taking classes in blacksmithing. Once he finishes his studies, Jim will return to continue leading and training our students in the Narrow Gate blacksmith shop. Congratuations to Jim for this fantastic opportunity, and we can't wait to see what God teaches you while you are away! If you'd like to learn more about John C. Campbell, please visit www.folkschool.org. To receive a brochure about Narrow Gate's metal shop or other artisan shops, please contact Allie Davis.

New Year, New Opportunities to Serve

1/12/2012 11:15:29 AM

Happy New Year! What better way to start 2012 than to get involved in your community and serve others? We at Narrow GateSign up to Volunteer believe each of us exists on this earth to be a servant and, as Paul says in Philippians 2:3-4, "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." If you are looking for ways to serve, we'd love for you to serve within our ministry, and we're ready to facilitate your participation.

If you would like to volunteer at Narrow Gate but have not filled out our Volunteer Sign-Up Form, please CLICK HERE. Melissa Smith, our new volunteer coordinator, will then be notified of your volunteer preferences so she can schedule times for you to serve. Melissa has also put together a calendar with specific dates scheduled as group volunteer days for cooking, cleaning, and landscaping/gardening, so please email her at Melissa@narrowgatefoundation.org to receive the calendar. Once you receive and review the scheduled dates, if you know you would like to and are able to participate, notify Melissa so she can plan accordingly. Feel free to email Melissa with other questions or with other ways you would like to serve, and here's to a great year of helping young men find vision and purpose for life!

Graduates Participate in Israel-Based Discipleship Training

11/11/2011 12:02:35 PM

NG Graduates in Israeli Discipleship SchoolWhen Executive Directors Bill and Stacy Spencer visited Israel in the spring of 2010, David Shishkoff, son of pastors Eitan and Connie Shishkoff and the older brother of Narrow Gate Graduate Avi, shared with them his vision to start a discipleship training experience for young men at his home in Israel.

This fall, their dream became a reality, and two of Narrow Gate's graduates participated: Avi (pictured second to the left) and Daniel (pictured at far right). David and his wife, Orit, sent the following update at the completion of the experience:

"A few days ago we completed our first full homegrown discipleship internship here. Half of the interns were Israelis and half from the nations. The program was blessed and successful and marked a new stage in fulfillment of the eight-year-old vision of a land-based discipling environment. We intend to have the next such program in early spring of 2012."
Praise God as He continues to use the NG family throughout the world to bring to pass His eternal plans for His children, and especially His children of promise!

Narrow Gate's Trick-or-Treater

11/1/2011 3:48:34 PM

Titus Armstrong Trick-or-TreatingNarrow Gate received a special treat yesterday when Titus Armstrong came trick-or-treating! The son of NG Graduate and Staff Member Travis Armstrong and his wife, Andrea, Titus will be one later this month. Because of Narrow Gate's rural, secluded location, trick-or-treaters do not normally frequent our doorstep on Halloween. Titus in his lion costume was a true delight!

Praise God: Through Narrow Gate, he is raising up men who lead their families in righteousness, truth and integrity and father their children in a godly manner. As they have received the Father's love themselves, they are able to freely give that love to those around them, including their own children!

Currently, 28 children -- some still in the womb -- live in families led by Narrow Gate graduates. The number grows consistently as more and more graduates marry and walk into parenthood. Please keep all these precious children and their parents in prayer!

Narrow Gate's young men have learned to turn items that include honey dippers, candlesticks, vases, and communion platters and chalices.

March class 2011Narrow Gate welcomed three young men to the family on Tuesday, March 8th: Trevor of West Bend, Wisc..; Weston of Franklin, Tenn.; and David of Smyrna, Ga. March is generally a great time to start Narrow Gate because the weather is beginning to warm up, but these guys were met with rain and storms their first night on The Hill. However, God is using the difficult circumstances they've chosen to embrace for this season (rainy nights, sleeping on the ground, way too many Ramen Noodle meals, etc.) to show them Himself and strip them of all they formerly used to identify themselves. Ryan "Rhino" Behrendsen's Home-going

7/27/2010 12:35:51 PM

Ryan "Rhino" BehrendsenOn July 24, 2010 Narrow Gate celebrated the home-going of one of its own.  Ryan Behrendsen of Ft. Wayne, Ind., was called home to heaven after 24 years of life on this earth.  A large crowd of family and friends gathered together last Saturday to celebrate the memory of times shared together and to tell stories of the joyful, dedicated man that they call friend.

His time on this earth serves as a reminder that life is more accurately measured by the impact it has on others rather than by the volume of its minutes.  A “short” life should never be mistaken for an incomplete life.  Ryan’s smile, perseverance and love for God infected everyone he encountered, and we will anxiously await the day when we are physically rejoined with him and our Savior, Jesus.  See you soon, Rhino!

While on the property, the men completed work projects such as tearing down the old forge and improving our campsites. The women and children worked in the garden and office and helped prepare meals each day. We are so grateful for the generosity of Betenbough Homes and the group's hard work during their stay here! Update: "Narrow Gate" or "Flood Gate"

5/3/2010 1:19:02 PM

The guys working on the bridge at the entrance of the propertyThank you all for your concern and prayers! We were able to make it in to the property this morning, despite significant damage to the roads leading to the lodge. Praise God: All our structures (the Lodge, both barns, etc.) are fine. There was a little flooding in both the barns, but nothing significant. The lodge is in perfect condition! No water got in anywhere, and though the power was out at some times over the past couple days, it was not out long enough to affect our food supply. God is good to us! The most damage is in the driveway at the entrance of the property, where patches of the road have been wiped out. The most extensive work will need to be done on our culvert pipes and the bridge leading into the property. We are all hard at work cleaning up what we can right now, but it will take time and professional help to make all the repairs. We are so grateful for God's protection and provision in the midst of tragic destruction all around us. Check out images of the damage in our photo gallery. Updated - 1:15 p.m, Monday, May 3rd.

"Narrow Gate" or "Flood Gate": Everyone is fine!

5/2/2010 12:55:49 PM

We've received many calls in the past 24 hours regarding our safety during this incredible season of flooding throughout Middle Tennessee.  EVERYONE HERE IS FINE!  The staff and students of Narrow Gate spent yesterday at the Global Perspectives Conference hosted by Chuck Missler and the Koinonia Institute of Cour d'Alene, ID.  During the conference, "...the rains came down and the floods came up" (as the song says). At 3 pm we left Grace Chapel in Leiper's Fork (the conference site) and attempted to get back to our property.  At 7 pm we checked into the Holiday Inn Express at I-65 and TN 412.  We are safe, dry, well-fed, rested and filled with gratitude for the things we learned at the conference as well as the truth that we already possess, which tells us that our contentment is never based in circumstance (Philippians 4:11).  Rather, we give thanks in everythying for this is the will of God (I Thessalonians 5:18)! We have not seen our property and we do not know how extensive the damage will be once we arive home.  But this we do know: Our God is able to provide all our needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).  Stay tuned for pictures on the home page and in our new photo gallery once we arrive home and begin the process of repairing all that has been damaged. By:  Bill Spencer - 1:00pm, Sunday, May 2

Narrow Gate in Southlake, TX (again!)

4/5/2010 12:41:39 PM

Narrow students and staff vist the Stockyards in Ft. Worth, TexasFor the second time this year, the family at Southlake Church opened their hearts to the guys from Narrow Gate.  For four days, we spent time in the Word and in worship together to learn more about becoming a disciple of Jesus. The congregation at Southlake Church is a fellowship of spirit-led, loving individuals who are passionate about reaching their community with the love of Christ. You can learn more about their church by visiting www.southlakechurch.org. Narrow Gate Executive Director Bill Spencer shared six different messages over the four-day period, which started with an Easter day celebration. The church has begun posting some of those lessons, and you can download them by visiting the Southlake Church Web site and going to their Resources section.  If you'd like to have Bill speak at your church, please contact us at office@narrowgatefoundation.org
